Last Monday we were pleased to welcome our District Governor Terry Brown and his wife Carol to our meeting as guest speakers. Both were very brief in their addresses but it was good to learn something of Terry's origins. Carol has, as her DG Partner's Project, a desire to raise money to support a project for Human Brain ResearchShe provided a rocking horse for which we were able to purchase raffle tickets rather than expecting an outright donation. She also displayed and second beautiful rocking horse produced in her "Woman's Shed" which will be drawn at District Conference to go to a club for giving to a deserving person.
Also at our meeting Dianne Heading was honoured by the club with a PHF for her past and ongoing work for Rotary and Days for Girls for whom she produces hundreds of sewn items.
We also welcomed our latest new member Greg Paxton.
I repeat the Youth message from Nicole Clarke as nominations for these youth events have not yet closed:
A message from Youth chair Nicole Clarke
RYTS and RYLA are a couple of youth programs open for nominations at the moment. We currently have a few candidates in mind but would like to ask if any of the Monday Club members would know of anyone interested in attending these seminars.
RYTS is a seminar from 3-9 December 2018. This program is aimed at young adults around 17-18 years of age. The program focuses on the development of skills needed to make the transition from school to post secondary education and employment. The cost of the awardee is $590 and is located at Tyalgum NSW.
RYLA is a seminar from 2-7 February 2019. It is aimed at helping young people (between the ages of 19-28), the future leaders to realise their full potential and igniting their passion for life. The cost of this seminar is $650 and also located at Tyalgum NSW.
If anyone has any young people interested within these age groups please contact either Nicole Clark or Anne Richardson by next week so the nominees can be sent some information and the interview process can begin.
Alec, the two Jim B's and Denise catered for a group of carers Wednesday as it is currently "Carers Week". A relatively easy task for a return of nearly $250 dollars as we used burger patties from the Rotary freezer. Many thanks Jim and Jim
With Spooky Walk fast approaching please make sure you are keeping the afternoon and evening of 31st Oct free to help. It is especially important that Monday Club members help with the setup for this event as most of the Satellite group are full-time working so they are relying on retiree members to help get things ready. This event was a great success at first run last year so please get behind it. We also need to remember that we will be running our burger van that night and needing help. Next Monday's meeting will be outlining jobs needing to be done
There is now an alternative to going to Tenterfield to see Bohemian Rhapsody, as I believe many were finding the time difference a problem. Warwick are also planning to screen the film on 1 Nov I think. More details later when it is not storming and I can send a message to Tony. Electronic communication and I do not go well together!
