Message from President Jim Barnes
With our first dinner meeting for 2023 complete, I look forward to a very rewarding year. A number of activities have already been proposed for the next few months. Two of my goals for my presidency have been a focus on community wellbeing and collaboration with other community groups. Our activities will reflect these goals .and will include advancing the Dementia Friendly Stanthorpe initiative and continuance of our Ageing Well Morning Teas. I look forward to a year of fun, fellowship and service with our small but ,at most times, energetic bunch of Rotarians.

Stanthorpe Refurbishment Project Garden Party 25th February.
This project has been on hold for a couple of years owing to COVid. At last we have been able to complete the project to improve the very dreary entrance corridor to ‘The Boulders’ Mental Health Unit at the Stanthorpe Hospital. Three murals -the works of local artists Laurie Astill and Julie Brown – now adorn the corridor and reception area Carpet tiles and potted plants add to the transformation . The project was possible through the generosity of the artists and funds from a District grant and from our club. Our club has undertaken a number of projects at the Stanthorpe over the years.
To celebrate the completion of the project and to allow the public to view the murals a garden party will be held on the Saturday the 25th February, more details will be forthcoming. Let me know by email jwbarnes051@gmail.com or phone 0438852197 if you can attend.
The Time Vault
In November, as apart of the 150th anniversary events the Bicentennial Time Vault was opened. One of the inclusions from 34 years ago was Rotary information that included Jean Harslett’s Book, in the Path of Service- the first 25 years of the Stanthorpe Rotary Club, the 35th anniversary presentation information provided by Past President David Lee (Sept 1988) and Charter Night Programme 1953.
To be added to the vault will be a number of Stanthorpe Rotary Opera in the Vineyard programmes, some newspaper articles over the last 25 years and an album of events undertaken by the club in 2021 and 2022, 150th anniversary merchandise produced by our club- a mug, window decals, colouring book and history books prepared for the primary school students.
The Time Vault in Lions Park on Quart Pot Creek will again be closed for another 25 years in February.
