Dear Rotarian.
The 27th Opera in the Vineyard will be held on the May day weekend with the Opera held on Sunday 5th May.
As all are aware this event is our major fund raising activity for the year and as previous the success of the Opera is only achievable through the efforts of fellow Rotarians and Rotary Volunteers.
The opera committee extends a call to arms to all Rotarians and volunteers to keep the weekend of the May day period ie Saturday, Sunday and Monday available to enjoy the company of fellow Rotarians and volunteers to make this year a success.
We will also require volunteers on the weekend prior to the May day weekend for mowing/ gardening at Ballandean Estate Wines and during the week leading up to the opera for setting up walkways/ toilets/ tables/ decorations/ lights etc.
Wayne will shortly be sending a spreadsheet to all club members detailing those duties which need to be completed. Can you please advise which duties you feel best able to accomplish and advise the days you have available and times available.
Thank you,
Wayne Mathers
Last Monday our guest speaker was Sandy Venn Brown, a member of Stanthorpe Zonta and also District Governor for District 22 of Zonta which covers all of Qld and the Northern Rivers district. Sandy gave a summary of the Zonta organisations and its goals and ideals. There were many parallels with Rotary and they are just now celebrating 100 since founding.

Dear Rotarians
More than a decade ago I had the honour to join the Youth Exchange program and was hosted by Stanthorpe Rotary Club 2005/2006 being sent from Switzerland. Up to now my experiences are unforgettable and I’m really thankful. I was wondering how everyone is doing.
After my exchange year I returned home to finish High School and went on to University to study medicine. 2014 I finished my doctors studies and started working. I experienced a work operation in Tansania and was able to see a totally different world. Meanwhile I learnt Swahili. After returning back home I began my training in surgery and am specializing at the moment in ear- nose, and throat medicine as well as surgery of the neck. I will be finished in around 1-2 years time. In a few month I will also start to do research in the field of cancer immunology to ameliorate cancer diagnostic and treatment of larynx cancer. My big dream would be to go on a fellowship abroad and work as well as research there.
Next to my work I kept my love for Rotary and am currently an active member of Rotaract Club Basel. Beforehand I founded with some other people Rotaract Club Baden, where we were able to organize our biggest fundraising event for Rotary Switzerland earning 80’000 dollars for an eye camp in Himalaya. So as you see never give up dreaming.
I would love to here from you and hope you are all well
Kind regards and snowy greeting from Switzerland
P.S. I attached a photo from my time in Stanthorpe (first one) as two current photos (being taken at the wedding of my older sister 2nd to the left, her husband, my younger sister and my brother)
