BBQ fundraiser at the Aldi Store Re-opening

We have accepted the offer from the Aldi Stanthorpe manager to provided a Community Service BBQ for customers at the Aldi store reopening next Wednesday 14 November. It promises to be a great opportunity for fundraising as well as being visible as doing a community service. Traditionally Aldi has 1000 customers through the store on Wednesdays (Specials day). Next Wednesday, they have 3 weeks of specials offered on the one day!

Since Alec is away in China, Jim, Kylie and Ann (yes it needs 3 to fill those big shoes!) are coordinating the event in 3 sessions. Breaky shift - 7am to 10.30am
                                                            Lunch shift - 10.30am to 2.30pm
                                                           Afternoon shift - 2.30pm to 6.30pm
If you can help during one or more of these shifts (or part), please contact Ann as soon as possible (0402 037 358 or arich9gm@gmail.com.au). Thank you.

Interact Update
Marie joined Interact this week and showed them some photos of home, her family and school. They were jealous that Marie didn’t have to wear a school uniform but were glad that they didn’t have to attend school from 7.30 till 5.30pm each day. Thanks for sharing with our Interactors, Marie. I’m sure some are motivated to become YEP students in the future.
After Marie’s presentation, the room became a competitive ping pong arena. No clear winner but lots of laughter!

Where has our drought relief donation gone?
There has been much made of the NSW and QLD drought and efforts by all Australians to raise funds to support those most in need. We mostly hear about drought relief in the form of stock feed being trucked west and see photos of starving cattle and sheep. But drought has far wider reaching effects on communities than suffering livestock. Stanthorpe Rotary, through the combined efforts of ourselves, Lions, Zonta and Stanthorpe Ag Society raised $16 000 which has been forwarded to the Rotary District 9630 Appeal. District 9630 is the district just to our north and encompasses some of Brisbane and Toowoomba, then heads west through Roma, Mitchell, St George and Charleville. It is to these areas that the money has been directed in the form of vouchers for use in local business and family days where the community can come together to support each other and promote mental health and well-being for those who are suffering.

Spooky Walk
It was a balmy spring night in the park, filled with happy, smiling faces and amazing costumes. Even the parents got into the mood with dressing up! I am, of course referring to Spooky Walk 2018! We have had many positive responses passed on from families who attended, so it looks like we are achieving our primary aim of providing a fun, safe event for families to enjoy together. At this early stage we estimate about 450 children attended with accompanying parents (about 300 last year!) and have made several thousand dollars profit.
